If you suffered an injury in your workplace or if you developed a work-related illness, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation. Don’t know what that means? We’ll explain everything!
UNDERSTANDING WORKERS’ COMPENSATION AND WHAT IT COVERS
What Is Workers’ Compensation?
We’re glad that you asked because we have a very informative video to explain it.
Worker’s compensation is a state-mandated insurance program that provides benefits to employees with work-related injuries or illnesses. These benefits include payments for medical bills, partial wage replacements, and compensation for permanent impairments.
At The Ray Firm, we can analyze your case and help you understand the type of benefit you’re entitled to receive. With several years of experience in workers’ compensation, our team will fight for your rights tirelessly.
What Injuries Are Covered?
According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), both mental and physical injuries are covered by law as long as they are the result of stress or accidents at work. The law also covers occupational diseases like lung cancer caused by the inhalation of asbestos.
There are two things worth noting:
The Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Act defines accidents as “an unexpected or unforeseen actual, identifiable, precipitous event happening suddenly or violently, with or without human fault, and directly producing at the time objective findings of an injury which is more than simply a gradual deterioration or progressive degeneration”.
Note that employees are not entitled to benefits if they did anything with willful intent to injure themselves or others, or if the injury was the result of drug or alcohol intoxication.
